Hawaiian Sail & Snorkel

Your adventure begins shortly after sunrise at Keauhou Bay, where your skilled crew will welcome you aboard the canoe, Kini Kini. As the sails unfurl, you’ll be transported to a bygone era, where the art of traditional Polynesian navigation was a fundamental way of Hawaiian life.

Feel the synergy of modern comfort and ancient tradition as you glide smoothly over crystal blue waters. Time will be maintained with an onboard motor even if the wind isn’t on our side. This means that while ancient Hawaiians paddled dozens of miles to their destinations, you won’t have to lift a finger!

Depending on the ocean and the wind you will cruise along the coastline for 30-45 minutes as your skilled crew choose from a couple of snorkel locations with optimal conditions. During this time, your professional guides will provide a safety briefing, an introduction to the canoe, and instructions on using snorkel gear. Guests will then be guided into the water to begin their 45-60-minute snorkel! The highlight of your journey lies beneath the surface as you explore a secluded cove where abundant SeaLife lies before your snorkel lens!

A professional guide will be with you in the water at all times, ensuring your safety and pointing out wildlife! The captain will remain close by with the canoe, and guests may return to the canoe at any time. On the return ride to Keauhou Bay, your guides will share various geographically and historically significant points of interest along the way and answer any questions our guests may have!

Know Before You Go

  • **Previous swimming experience is required.
  • If you’ve never snorkeled before don’t worry. They will get you fitted with a mask and teach you how to position the mask. While breathing through a tube seems a bit weird, it will become more natural after a few minutes.
  • If you are concerned about your ability to swim, please call Eka Canoe Adventures to discuss. There are steps they can take to make you feel comfortable and safe on your trip, like the utilization of floatation devices and placing you close to the vessel or a professional guide.
  • You should be able to climb a short, 4-rung ladder back into the canoe unassisted.
