Over the Top Kaua’i Hiking Adventure

The name speaks for itself! These tours are extreme in either length, technical difficulty, physical exertion or a combination of all factors. Lasting up to 10 hours, this Over The Top Adventure is simply unreal. You’ll be guided to places of epic beauty, which require considerable effort to reach; the result is well worth it.

Many of these adventures are off trail, through overgrown jungle, and sometimes follow hunting tracks or other routes that are on unmaintained surfaces. These hikes are strenuous to extreme difficulty and often require that guests have extensive hiking experience and a general sense of ease, safety and well-being in remote places. Whether you choose to explore the Na Pali Coast, Alaka’i Swamp, Waimea Canyon, or some of Kauai’s less easily visited waterfalls and interior mountain areas, an Over the Top Kauai Adventure is the kind of experience you will remember for a lifetime!

Start time: 6:00 AM

What To Bring

  • Water, Sunscreen, Bug repellent, hat, sunglasses, camera, backpack, snacks.
  • Equipment needs depend on the tour you book. Immediately upon purchasing your hike, a trip-specific list of recommended equipment, aka “gear list,” will be included in your confirmation email. If you don’t have something on the gear list, don’t worry! Let your guide know, they will find a way to make it work (most guides have a stockpile of “lender gear”).
  • Check out this blog on “How to Dress”, How To Dress For Success On Your Next Hike | Kauai Hiking Tours
  • You may want to bring a towel, change of clothes, and slippers to change into after the hike.

Know Before You Go

  • Strenuous to extreme difficulty level.
  • Requires that guests have extensive hiking experience and a general sense of ease, safety and well-being in remote places.
  • You must be able to walk on unpaved, uneven, likely muddy terrain.
  • The area has the potential to be rainy, so you should pack layered clothing, a rain jacket and closed-toe shoes.
  • Transportation: in most cases transportation is provided. Up to 4 people can be accommodated in most of their SUV-style vehicles, up to 6 or 7 in their extended SUV vehicles, and up to 14 people in their 4×4 van (as available). On some occasions it may make more sense to arrange for the guide to hop in with you, or have you follow them in your vehicle and/or meet your guide at the trailhead.
